Tax Sale Information and What to do if your Property went to a Tax Sale OR if you want to Sell your property before you lose it
What is a tax sale? It's basically a sale where owners of property have not paid their taxes for 1-2yrs and there is a bidding on the property via a "Tax Sale." When this happens people are bidding on your property for pennies on the dollar! So what happens when someone "wins" a bid on your property? First thing to know is it takes 1yr to pay your taxes AND the percentage owed on the property.
So how does the whole process work?
When your property is sold at the tax sale you have ONE year and a DAY to purchase back your property. Each quarter you do not redeem your property the interest rate on that property goes up by 3% of whatever the person won the bid at AND you have to pay that price in addition to your taxes owed.
- 1st Quarter: 3%
- 2nd Quarter: 6%
- 3rd Quarter: 9%
- 4th Quarter: 12%
